Projects
Flow Deflectors - Our main project for 2011 is the re-positioning of the flow deflectors in the River Chess below Cannon's Mill.
The deflectors are used to push the flow of water into the middle of the river to scour and clean the bed. For fish they provide a refuge during high flows and also create a spawning habitat..
Invasive Species - A major task the Group has been involved in the last few years has been the
removal of Himalayan Balsam from the Millfields allotments. For further information on this plant
see the article on the Town Hall website
Chesham Environmental Group is supporting the development of Chesham as a
'Walkers Are
Welcome town'.
Fly Monitoring - Members of the Group are carrying monthly surveys of water quality of the
River Chess. This is being done on behalf of the River Chess Association
Holloway Lane Clear Up - On 15 September 2010 members of the Group helped clear the River
Chess of obstructions as it flows parallel to Holloway Lane. See the article on the Town Hall
website
Hedgerow Surveying - Members of the Group have been involved in carrying out surveys of hedgerows
in Cholesbury and Hawridge for the Buckinghamshire & Milton Keynes Biodiversity Partnership. A report
can be found in Issue 7
of their newsletter
